Well, we did it! Remember how I said I would be sad because mom wasn't dong it with me. Well guess what? SHE DID IT WITH ME! We were sitting on the couch Friday and I said "It won't be the same without you." and then she told me she would do it. So when Amber and I went to get our packets, we registered mom! I was so happy! That evening we had a delicious dinner of whole wheat pasta with lots of veggies and then called it a night. We were going to have to be out the door by 6:30am.

The cold doesn't bother you so much as the wind does. The wind for this race was horrific. There would be times that it was calm and it was perfect.... then a gust of wind would come and mom and I would walk like we were drunk. Ha!
We finished faster than we did in 2013 and I am very proud of that! I would still like to do this race in 3 hours or less. That is my ultimate goal. Oh! And we weren't second to last this year. We finished ahead of 12 people! Woo!
The absolute BEST PART of this race was the fact that Mary Todd and Abe crossed the finish line with mom! I finished, got my medal, and turned around to see mom crossing with them and I just laughed. It was amazing!
I now have 3 penny medals and hope that collection continues to grow! My next race is a Virtual 13K that Amber signed me up for and I have until April 16th to complete that. I miss running races. I really want to make sure I don't forget this feeling and all I have to do is continue to find races and sign up for as many as I can.
Also, I hope to be an inspiration to people out that that no matter what size you are, how old you are, what pains you have; if you set your mind on something you
CAN and WILL accomplish it.
Annnnnd because I am a data junkie, here are my Garmin times/splits:
It is so wonderful to see you running again. I remember seeing pictures from your previous runs and being so jealous. I'm hoping to get back into it when it warms up a bit, I've never done an official race (don't count my colour run last year because I walked the whole thing with Gwen) but I'm hoping by the end of this year to do my first half marathon. You are such an inspiration girlie.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Also, you can totally do it. :) Races are SO much fun!
